These commands have been added since version 1.0 of Nightingale; they are not described in the manual. New features added to existing commands are not covered here.

• Clear System and Clear Page or Clear xx Pages (in the Edit menu): these replace the Cut System and Cut Page commands described in the manual. As with the normal Clear and Cut commands, the difference is that while Clear System and Clear Page(s) still remove the entire system and page(s), respectively, they do NOT put a copy on the clipboard. This is usually all that’s needed, and it’s faster and requires less memory.

Another change is that, if two or more pages are selected, you can remove all of them at once (“xx” is the number of pages).

• Copy xx Pages: if two or more pages are selected, replaces the Copy Page command (“xx” is the number of pages).

• Paste xx Pages: if two or more pages are in the clipboard, replaces the Paste Page command (“xx” is the number of pages).

• Double Selection (in the Edit menu): makes a copy of everything selected and puts the copy—in rhythmic unison with the original—onto another staff. In other words, it makes the new staff “double” the original one in the musical sense. This can also be done with Paste Merge: however, Double Selection can be applied to ANY amount of music, instead of being restricted to a single system;  it’s much faster; and (as of version 1.4 of Nightingale) it’s more reliable.

• Split Part (in the Master Page menu): splits a single part of, say, two staves into two separate parts of one staff each. Available if just one part is selected and it consists of two or more staves. For example, if you’ve set up an orchestral score with two flutes described as a single part of two staves, you could use Split Part before Extract in order to print a separate part for each flute.

• Record Merge (in the Play/Rec menu): like Record Insert, but the newly-recorded material is “overdubbed” on existing music. One limitation of Record Merge is that it can’t split across staves. When you finish recording, the Transcribe Recording dialog appears, asking you to set the duration “Grid” unit, etc.; then Nightingale merges the new notes/chords into the score at the insertion point.
